A Makerspace inside the Precinct, and part of the Precinct. Tshimologong Makerspace (TMG) is open from Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00, and on Saturdays (half-day) when workshops are hosted. One of the Makerspace managers and/or a host is available during these hours.
Saturday half-day skill share workshops in Maker/digital technologies. TMG Makerspace offers short duration workshops to develop foundational skills in digital fabrication, prototyping and making technologies such as:
• 3D design and printing,
• Molding and casting,
• Laser design and cutting,
• Electronics and IoT using Arduino
• Augmented and Virtual Reality.
We run monthly community meetup events that grow interest in Maker technologies. The meetup usually consists of a few short talks focusing on a specific technology area e.g. Internet of Things, as well as some practical making activity. Prominent community makers, industry players and academics participate in the meetups. Meetups are made possible through sponsorship of our industry partners.
We offer either 1-month or 2-month paid Makerspace residencies to individuals or groups to work, learn and develop a digital technology prototype/project/ pitch within the TMG Makerspace community in Braamfontein. Residents receive access to TMG’s shared resources: workspace, tools/ equipment, workshops, and events as well as shared digital fabrication expertise and assistance. Accommodation is not ordinarily provided but can be arranged through program partners/funders.
TMG offers technology immersions to industry and academia. These technology immersions provide an introduction to the core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). Delegates are initially introduced to the key concepts of the 4IR through classroom work. Thereafter they are immersed in the technology through practical demonstrations and project work.
We provide digital technology and fabrication advisory services on an ad-hoc basis to start-ups and entrepreneurs within a Precinct incubation program at an hourly rate. This work can also be funded by a partner.
